I have not yet fully understood what allows change in my patients. Perhaps this statement is a hyperbole, a way of emphasizing the emotional weight I experience when I am entrusted with fragments of life given to me in trust by those who rely on me. Being what we are called to be is never simple. Patients invest in us: in our abilities, in our personal history, in the possibility that our gaze might influence their experience.
