This paper investigates the contemporary condition of culture, whose landscape appears dominated by post-truth and lies. These lies, in their various forms and declinations, now make it impossible to distinguish the real from the plausible, the true from the surreal, the reliable from the false. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, and drawing on the theoretical contributions of scholars and intellectuals such as Steve Fuller, Giorgio Agamben, Tom Nichols, and Nadia Urbinati, the article examines the consequences that this phenomenon, thanks also to the contribution of the internet, can have on the stability of democracies and social disintegration.
