The article examines the thought of Bruno Leoni, showing how it connects law, economy, and politics. It then questions whether it makes sense to oppose Leoni and Murray N. Rothbard, as there is more consonance between the two than one might think. The comparison with Rothbard allows for the assessment of whether Leoni remained faithful to his Weberian-style value-free program, which advocates avoiding any ethical and/or ideological implications, and whether the social scientist and the libertarian can coexist. The text concludes by evaluating the fruitfulness of the attempt to reconstruct the entire social life starting from the exchange relationship, highlighting both the strengths and weaknesses of the research project conducted by Leoni.
