Forse non è un caso che alcuni autori, prima facie politicamente assai lontani da Oakeshott, come per esempio Chantal Mouffe, teorica del "populismo di sinistra", abbiano valutato positivamente le argomentazioni di questo filosofo, sia pure nei limiti connessi all'apparente superamento di posizioni liberali e senza prendere in considerazione a sufficienza il fatto che il superamento del liberalismo, in Oakeshott, è un superamento dialettico, proprio nel senso della filosofia di Hegel.
